Design Concept

  The modern bridge is the physical entity of force, flow and finance. It is hard for architect and engineer to resist the seduction of making the bridge and them-self significant by designing it as a heroic landmark. Yet the Fuzzy Bridge is not a conventional figure that represents the result of the man-made profit-driven standardised structure; instead, it absorbs rich values and inspirations from the important historical and contextual references in Korea, provide an innovative and unique framework with fuzzed boundary between human and nature, which manifests itself in the world, the city of Seoul and Korea is possible for all types of creatures to interact, communicate, and coexist equally.


Structural Design

  The structure form of the bridge is based on the Bi-directional Evolutionary Structural Optimization (BESO) method, the common structure law of nature; formed bones, branches to name a few. It enabled people and animal to enjoy an alternative spatial experience of a bridge. This system removes unnecessary materials to search for the minimum material use and structure infill, at the same time, the maximum stability, active space flexibility and a multi-layered system have been achieved.


ECO-BRIDGE SYSTEM

  The bridge enhances the relationship between urban life and nature. The openness of the grid system has enabled different types of species with varies kind of lighting, ventilation and moisture conditions. The structural form of the bridge allows different scales and types of creatures to travel and inhabit. It is also the very first time that Seoul citizens could enjoy the opportunity to observe and engage with plants and animals from above without interrupting the nature.

  Ecological connection: horizontal ecological connection, natural connection with surrounding mountain park vegetation and natural transition of plants. Plants, animals, roads, cars - vertical spatial relationships: reflect the relationship of different species in different spaces.


Traffic Flow Line

  Human line: park visitors, boarders

  Animal line: big animals, small animals, reptiles, flying animals

  Simulate the northeastern corner of the plot and the southwestern corner of the flow of people to form a secondary traffic line, cut the existing volume of the building, so that the west side of the block to the southwest side of the river landscape with open to the northeast corner of the commercial recreation are open.
